We collect information you provide directly: • Account information: name, email address, username, profile photo, account type (food lover, chef, restaurateur, etc.) • Content you post: dish photos, videos, reviews, ratings, flavour tags, allergen information, and captions • Location data: when you choose to tag a restaurant, we may access your approximate location with your permission • Communications: messages you send to other users within the app • Professional information: verification documents for professional account types (chef, sommelier, critic, etc.) We also collect information automatically when you use the app: • Device information (device type, operating system, unique device identifiers) • Usage data (features you use, content you view, interactions such as likes and saves) • Push notification tokens (when you grant notification permissions)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: • Provide, maintain, and improve the Chit Chat service • Personalise your feed and content recommendations • Enable social features (following, likes, comments, saves, direct messages) • Send you notifications about activity on your account • Verify professional accounts • Provide analytics to restaurant and professional account holders • Respond to support requests • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service • Comply with legal obligations
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. Public content (posts, reviews, profile information) is visible to other users and may be indexed by search engines. You can control post visibility in your privacy settings. We may share information with: • Service providers who help us operate the platform (Supabase for database/auth, Expo/EAS for app distribution, Vercel for web hosting) • Legal authorities when required by law or to protect safety • A successor entity in the event of a merger or acquisition (users will be notified)
5. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting support@chitchat.app. Upon deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.

The Chit Chat web app uses session cookies required for authentication. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. Analytics are limited to aggregate, anonymised usage data collected internally.

Chit Chat is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@chitchat.app.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), row-level security on our database, and hashed authentication credentials. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification. Continued use of Chit Chat after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
